Students across the country are learning how to code from anywhere thanks to our new partnership with the Flatiron School.

On Friday a couple students in NYC got together at a bar in the Financial District to get some programming done. Across the country in Los Angeles, a group gathered in a classroom at an emergency skills training facility to power through some code labs together. Meanwhile in Chicago, soon-to-be developers assembled at a coffeeshop to do focused work on their code. All of these groups came equipped with their laptops, Flatiron School’s Full Stack Web Development curriculum (Learn), and a Karma Go.

“Karma Go makes picking a place to study so much easier. Instead of worrying whether the wifi will be strong enough, we can focus on finding fun, comfortable, central locations to code.” — Lisa Briones, a student from LA

Study groups like this are popping up across the US in all sorts of unexpected places — from coffee shops and food courts to parks, co-working spaces, and even bars. These study groups work together on the collaborative curriculum that will ultimately get them jobs as software developers — guaranteed.

The groups include students enrolled in the Full Stack Web Development program as well as brand new students who are just getting their feet wet with Intro to Ruby Development. Each local group is self-organized by Flatiron School students eager to connect with others learning how to program in their area, and powered by the Karma Go, which lets you bring wifi with you anywhere. The freedom Karma Go provides allows students to gather in the places they want to be — not just the places that already have robust wifi networks.

“Learning how to code is a big challenge and I love being able to collaborate with other students who may be struggling with the same things I am — or even better, students who have mastered a concept and can show others the way. Even though I’m doing an online program, being able to come together at a local park or bar really makes me feel like we’re all in this together.”

In addition, many Flatiron students are still working full-time or are still in school, so they don’t always have the luxury of knowing where their next wifi network will be available. In between study groups, Karma Go saves what would have been lost time.
